As some of you may have noticed, I've been obsessing about shooting coins, starting with trying to shoot quarters at Boomershoot a few years back and extended to a life-goal of hitting a fifty cent piece at 1000 yards from a prone firing position using a rifle I can carry around. (I've even built a rife from the ground up to do this...). The nice thing about coins is that there are so many sizes of them, you can scale the difficulty of the task based on the range... and when I finally do shoot fifty cent pieces at 1000 yards, I'm making some necklaces. I even know the first two people who are getting one.
PaulS, Caesar and I were chatting about this in this thread http://gcmsweb.org/forums/thread/13904.aspx and I've decided, as GC @ MS first and newly annointed (will that oil ever come out of my hair?) Events Czar/shadow president, that we should do a group event! Unilaterally! Hah! I'll be there, I'm the Czar, it's an event!
I'm calling this a beta test because, among other things, we're going to be experimenting with how to best afix the coins to targets so that we can see them and they don't dissappear when they are hit, and also because I've never tried to shoot a dime at 200 yards, which will be the hardest course of fire we can do at SVRC... If I can't hit it, then it was only a test. : )
So, please join us at SVRC for this, our beta-test and first-ever GC @ MS Spare Change Shoot.
Guests are allowed to attend SVRC, and Caesar is a member and he will be there, so we should be covered from a membership perspective, however it would be good if we have more SVRC members there, just, well, because. It's more polite.
What: Spare Change Shoot beta test
When: March 22nd, 2008 2009, 1:00 PM
Where: SVRC http://maps.live.com/?v=2&cid=18C1D5344D20BDB8!631
Who: GC @ MS members
What to bring: Yourself, first off. That's all you really HAVE to bring, you can shoot my rifle a few times if you don't have a rifle. (If the scope hits you in the face it's not my fault! I'm still working on the optics situation...) Additionally: The most accurate rifle you've got, coins, small (say 12 inches square?) plywood, duct tape, something warm to drink, other fun things to shoot with, or at.
I hope to see you then!
Please reply to this thread if you plan on attending!
NOTE: CAESAR AND I WILL BE THERE UNLESS THE ROADS ARE TRULY IMPASSABLE FOR A SUBARU WITH SNOW TIRES - if you are concerned that we might not be on, check on this thread Sunday morning, if there's no cancellation notice then we are on.
